The rotational data of 321 asteroids from the Triad lightcurve file are analyzed. The relationship between rotation rates vs size, shape, composition, and local asteroid density is investigated. There are several selection effects within the data, the most important being the favoring of asteroids with high apparent brightness. A sample of 134 photoelectrically observed, main-belt nonfamily asteroids is investigated, which are unbiased by selection according to family membership, unusual orbital characteristics, or observing techniques. The results suggest that there is no significant correlation between rotational properties and taxonomic types but that a pronounced change in rotational properties occurs in between the 150 to 250 km size interval. This corresponds to the size at which a change of slope occurs in the size frequency distribution. The size range is suggested to represent a transition between very large, rapidly rotating, low amplitude objects and smaller ones having a considerably greater range of periods and amplitudes. Large asteroids are nearly spherical and may be primordial.
