Magnetohydrodynamics: Planetary Magnetospheres
Scientific paper
Plasma flow in the vicinity of planets is considered. It is shown that at times of enhancement of the magnetospheric convection field at the boundary of a synchronously rotating plasmasphere a viscous boundary layer with a flow shift is formed. In the MHD approximation, with anisotropic conductivity in a dipole magnetic field, the distributions of velocity and plasma concentration, electric fields, and currents are computed.
