The necessity of correcting for the warp of the Galactic hydrogen layer
in studies of the kinematics of the outer regions of the Galaxy is
discussed. New curvilinear coordinate systems linked to the layer
symmetry surface are considered. An analytical approximation of this
surface is presented.
