A well defined sample of IRAS (Infrared Astronomy Satellite) galaxies were studied from the Rosat All Sky Survey data. Among the detections are Seyfert 2, LINER, and Starburst galaxies with X-ray luminosities more than an order of magnitude higher than observed before. The All Sky Survey carried out with the Rosat satellite offers an opportunity to examine the X-ray characteristics of particular classes of object. A comparison of the infrared and X-ray properties of galaxies is of interest regarding the relative importance of star formation processes and central active nuclei. A statistical investigation of the X-ray emission for IRAS galaxies is reported. Subsequent optical spectroscopy of the most luminous cases reveals that outstanding objects in various categories were detected.
