The effect of directed mean mass transfer on seasonal variations of the main neutral components of the thermosphere (O, O2, and N2) is investigated with allowance for multicomponent diffusion and turbulent mixing. A model of seasonal variations of the thermosphere is developed for midlatitude conditions and medium solar activity; at satellite heights, this model agrees well with the DTM and MSIS semiempirical models. It is shown that seasonal and semiannual variations of atomic-oxygen concentration can be determined by including directed mean mass motions of circulation type in the total diffusion model.
