The German X-ray activities of the last ten years are now culminating in the development of a dedicated project - the Germany X-ray satellite 'Roentgensatellit'. The payload consists of the main instrument, a highly sensitive 80 cm aperture X-ray telescope and will be supplemented by a smaller UK instrument, the Wide Field Soft X-ray Camera. Very probably an US experiment, the High Resolution Imager will be included in the focal plane instrumentation of the main telescope. This paper gives a short description of the scientific and mission objectives and the satellite system aspects. The impacts of the STS-Interfaces on the satellite program are discussed in detail.
