At distances larger than 7 kpc the absorption is seen as rather irregular. The overwhelming majority of the late-type giants form a branch at the left side of the main-sequence in the two-color diagram. A few giants are located on its right side. The space density of the late-type giants is nearly constant up to distances of 3.5 kpc and is 20% to 30% smaller than the density in the solar neighborhood. The main-sequence stars with M(G) between 0m and 2m exhibit the same behavior. Stars whose absolute magnitudes are brighter than M(G) equals 0m are very rare in the field. The density functions of the stars with M(G) greater than 2m exhibit different behavior at distances less than 1 kpc, with densities larger than, equal to or even smaller than in the solar neighborhood. At larger distances, they all have decreasing densities, partly caused by incompleteness. The luminosity function for distances between 0.4 and 1.0 kpc is found to be practically the same as the one for the solar neighborhood.
