Nova Cyg III 1920 (Denning 1920, The Observatory, 43, 328) is one of the brightest and fastest galactic observed, increasing in brightness nearly 13.5 magnitudes and declining 3 magnitudes in 16 days. Baldwin (1943, Pub. Obs. Mich., 8, 61) states that Nova Cyg III 1920 is the only nova where emission velocities in the nebular stage don't agree with the velocity of the principal spectrum. Knots of emission are observed by Slavin et al (1995, MNRAS, 276, 353). The time of formation of the knots is unclear, although the early spectra suggest the knots formed during outburst. In order to clarify these sets of observations, we re-measured the velocities of the lines of 45 spectroscopic plates which have a dispersion of 40 Angstroms/mm and taken with the Ann Arbor 37.5-inch telescope from 23 August 1920 to 4 October 1920, using modern digitization and image processing techniques. The spectrographs were scanned at the Astronomical Photographic Data Archive located at Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute with a transmission scanner that has a resolution of 0.23 Angstroms/pixel. Each scanned image includes a titanium comparison lamp spectrum and nova spectrum for wavelength calibration. In addition, the interstellar H and K lines are easily detected and used as one method to measure the velocities of the nova H and K lines. We will present the complex spectra and discuss the line profiles in terms of the possibility of early formation of emission knots.
