Venera 11 and 12 spectrophotometric data were used to analyze the characteristics of the aerosol component of the Venusian atmosphere. It is found that at a height of 63 km the optical thickness in the visible range does not exceed 2-5. The height distribution of the aerosol extinction coefficient in clouds and in the subcloud atmosphere was determined. In addition, the optical thickness of clouds above Venera 11 and 12 landing sites was determined and found to be 29 and 38 respectively for the height range of 63-48 km. A finely dispersed aerosol with radii not greater than 0.1 micron was found below the main cloud layer (i.e., at heights below 48 km).
