Morphometric analysis of the surface of tesserae shows that the distance between ridges forming the structural surface pattern of tesserae varies from 2 to 38 km, with average values of 6 to 11 km, increasing with the height of the tesserae. Estimates of the thickness of the upper layer of different tesserae range from 0.5 to 7 km, and these estimates are close to the values of the relative elevation of the tesserae above the surrounding plains. Thus the thickness of the deformed layer can be determined from tesserae topography. Since there are no significant gravity anomalies for Tellura and Laima, it seems likely that the tesserae topography is supported by bouyancy. If the tesserae consist of basalt, the root thickness is estimated at 20-30 km for Tellura and Laima and 30-45 km for Fortuna; if they consist of feldspar the root thickness is 10-18 km for Tellura and Laima and 15-27 km for Fortuna.
