An improved model describing the interaction of cosmic rays with the middle atmosphere is developed. Ionization profiles q(h) are calculated as a function of the composition (protons, alpha particles, and the L, M, H, and VH groups of nuclei) and the energy spectrum of penetrating high-energy particles. A computer program implementing the Gauss algorithm for the solution of multiple integrals has been devised. Ionization profiles in the 25-80 height range and N(h) profiles in the 50-80 region were obtained for the solar maximum and minimum periods.
