Results are presented of a continuing program of observations of circumstellar shells in the NaI 5890 - 5896 A and KI 7665 - 7699 A resonance lines using high resolution spectroscopy made on-star and off-star at a few arcsec. For the first time, both NaI and KI shell brightnesses are homogeneously obtained for both Alpha Ori and Mu Cep. The data generally agree with previously published measurements when available. For Alpha Ori, the observations are consistent with spherical symmetry and an expansion velocity of 15 km/s. For Mu Cep, the observations suggest that its envelope is clumpy and results from anisotropic mass loss, and that three incomplete shells exist with expansion velocities of about 10, 25, and perhaps 47 km/s. The ratio of NaI over KI brightnesses strongly differs for Alpha Ori (0.06) and Mu Cep (10), revealing quite different ionization structure in their envelopes despite their spectral similarity. The ratios 5896/5890 of the shell emission lines indicate that NaI scattering is optically thick; no similar conclusion on the KI lines can be derived.
