Results are reported from a new calculation, in a detailed level-accounting scheme, of the rate of resonant excitation of 2p53s and 2p53p levels of Fe XVII. Preliminary results for the 2p53s configuration only, reported in 1988 by Goldstein, indicated that these rates were significantly lower than those in the literature. This reduction in the effect of resonant excitation obtained in the present scheme is shown to persist when the 2p53p levels are included.
