We describe a method of calculating synthetic line profiles using a generalized version of the Sobolev approximation. We apply this method to calculate line profiles based on the two-dimensional hydrodynamical models of line-driven winds from luminous disks by Proga, Stone & Drew (1999). We describe the main properties of the theoretical line profiles and compare them with recent HST observations of the cataclysmic variables XI Vel and V3885 Sgr (Hartley et al. 2001). Finally, we discuss successes and failures of the line-driven disk wind model in reproducing line profiles observed in CVs. The work presented in this paper was performed while DP held a National Research Council Research Associateship at NASA/GSFC. Computations were supported by NASA grant NRA-97-12-055-154.
