Experimental evidence is presented for ion acceleration along the front of a transverse magnetosonic shock wave in plasma. It is shown that the energy spectra of the accelerated particles are anisotropic with respect to the direction of the current at the front. This anisotropy is interpreted in terms of the mechanism of resonance (v sub p X B) acceleration.
