Venus Atmosphere: Lightning, Venus: Volcanism

Scientific paper

The issues of the existence of volcanism and lightning on Venus are separate questions which are not intimately linked as Taylor and Cloutier suggest. There is much evidence that there is recent and perhaps present-day volcanism and there is much independent evidence that lightning occurs on Venus from the Venera 9 orbiter, the Venera 11 and 12 landers, and the Pioneer Venus orbiter but evidence for or against one of these mechanisms does not imply the presence of the other.
