Consideration is given to the problem of calculating the renormalized stress energy tensor of matter in thermal equilibrium with a black hole. In this paper, the values obtained by Elster (1984) and by Frolov and Zel'nikov (1985) for the renormalized energy density of the electromagnetic field in the Hartle-Hawking vacuum state on the horizon of a Schwarzschild black hole and on the pole of the event horizon of a Kerr black hole, respectively, are corrected.
