The dependence on rotation of the Eddington luminosity and the condition of critical rotation for stars close to the Eddington limit are reexamined with respect to the ``Omega -limit'' introduced recently. The latter is an artifact due to disregarding gravity darkening. It is shown that the standard condition for critical rotation is not affected by the proximity to the Eddington limit, while rotation reduces the Eddington luminosity by at most ~ 40 per cent in the critical case. As a consequence, the stellar mass loss rate will not diverge at the ``Omega -limit'' but rather weakly depend on rotation.
