Morphological relicts of impact structures and of circular features of possible impact origin in Africa were explored using ER Mapper 6.0 and the Eros GTOPO30 dataset. It is apparent that relict morphological remnants of major terrestrial impacts can persist for two billion years or more (Vredefort), even where deeply eroded, unless strongly deformed or deeply buried. The presence of underlying ancient impact structures may also be evident through unconformably overlying stratal cover where not too thick. Several previously unknown or unnamed circular structures of possible impact origin are recognizable morphologically. No clear indication of the large impact structure proposed for the Bangui region is evident (Girdler et al., 1992), although several large circular arcs are morphologically evident in that region. R. Girdler et al., 1992, Tectonophys., v. 212, p. 45-58.
