We will describe a new space mission study for the determination of the differential gravitational redshift of a pair of clocks in the sun's field. The proposed mission entails a pair of trapped ion clocks onboard a spacecraft on a trajectory to the sun. The spacecraft and the clocks are designed to survive approaching the sun to within four solar radii. The two clocks, one based on the mercury ion and the other on the cadmium ion, are designed to share their thermal, magnetic, and vacuum environment, thus allowing a cancellation of perturbations common to both clocks. In this fashion, a precise differential measurement of the redshift, at one part in 10^10 is possible. This sensitivity is six orders of magnitude larger than the previous GP-A redshift test in 1976. In this paper details of the mission and the proposed science investigation will be described. A discussion of the mission trade off and the clock technology will also be presented.
