The authors have considered a collisionless magnetoactive electron-ion plasma in which the propagation of an Alfvén wave with large amplitude results in relativistically high velocities of the plasma components, comparable with the light velocity (a possible situation for the plasma of a number of cosmic objects). It is shown that the nonlinear stage of the Alfvén wave propagation can be described by the Schrödinger equation with nonlinearity of the derivative complemented by nonzero boundary conditions at infinity. Simple soliton structures as well as simple-wave-type solutions of this equation are considered. It has been shown that relativistic effects strongly influence the process of formation of nonlinear waves in a plasma.
