The stationary self-focusing of a powerful electromagnetic wave beam due to relativistic nonlinearity near a surface of critical density of an inhomogeneous plasma is considered. This effect may be important in the use of intense lasers to heat or compress plasma, and the plasma surrounding a pulsar, if the pulsar is losing energy by radiation of electromagnetic waves at its rotation frequency. The structure field dynamics at self-focusing is studied by numerical integration of a parabolic nonlinear equation for the electromagnetic wave beam amplitude.
