The monad method for specifying the reference system is used to examine the Schiff effect arising in the motion of a rotating body along a ballistic trajectory in a Schwarzschild field. A general formula for calculating the precession angle in the accompanying reference system is presented. As examples the motions of a gyroscope in parabolic, elliptical, and hyperbolic orbits is considered.
