An approach is presented for obtaining approximate relativistic equations of motion of a massive body in an N-body system, where the extended structure of the body and its gravitational self-field are taken into account in first post-Newtonian order. In the case of a system composed of two spheroids in rigid rotation, it is found that from the relativistic local equations of motion for a perfect fluid a Lagrangian can be obtained, which accounts for the relativistic changes in the orbit, and for the relativistic spin procession. Finally, the importance of this description of the motion of relativistic extended bodies is briefly discussed in connection with the observations of the Hulse-Taylor 'Binary Pulsar' PSR 1913+16.
