Radioastronomy data on 97 galaxies were examined to determine the range of angles subtended by the magnetic fields in types I and II radio galaxies. The data were analyzed to measure the relative angles between the directions of the magnetic fields and the major axes of the radio galaxies. High correlations were found between the direction of the field and major axis of the radio image, provided the radio galaxy or quasar had a high luminosity. High correlations were also observed between the magnetic field directions and the minor axes for radio galaxies with low luminosity levels. The correlation between luminosity and type of galaxy was therefore also studied using 43 objects from the database. The results supported a relationship between the major axes and the magnetic field for type I radio galaxies, which have high luminosities, and between the magnetic fields of type II radio galaxies, which have low luminosities, and their minor axes.
