The response of the earth's inner core to the attraction of the sun and moon is discussed using a model of the earth consisting of the inner core and mantle. The results indicate that some periodic constituents of the polar motion and the dipole part of the geomagnetic westward drift which correspond to astronomical nutation periods agree with the hypothesis of a relative precession and nutation of the inner core.
