Chemical analyses were made of stream waters and rocks from three local drainage basins within, which the rocka are chemically homogeneous. The relative mobility of each major element was computed as the ratio of its content in the mineral residue of the stream water to its content in the rock drained by the stream. The order of mobility in each case was Mg > Ca > Na > K > Si > Al = Fe. This differs somewhat from published estimates based on the composition of average fresh waters and rocks, in which the reported order of mobility was Ca > Na > Mg > K > Si > Al = Fe .
