The short arc adjustment mode is a method used to determine the geoid surface without using highly precise reference orbits. The state vector components are subject to adjustment and represent a set of independent weighted parameters. The radial distance to a satellite point is differentiated with respect to these parameters and a radial distance to the geoid is differentiated with respect to the geopotential coefficients. The observed satellite altimetry value, H, is approximately equal to the distance between these two radial distances. This paper introduces a correction which makes it possible to express the mathematical model for H as accurately as possible, good to a few centimeters.
