MARKARYAN1 and Markaryan and Lipovetsky2 have given data on a few hundred galaxies with strong ultraviolet continua. Markaryan classifies them on the basis of the concentration of the source of the continuum (s means concentrated and d diffuse objects; sd and ds are intermediate). Especially among the s-type objects there seems to be contamination with QSOs when their spectra, colour and presumable morphology (spheroidal, compact) are considered. Redshifts are now available for many Markaryan galaxies providing new material for studies of the redshift problem. It is worthwhile to see whether the claimed peculiarities in redshifts of QSOs and related emission-line objects3-6 have counterparts in the distribution of these smaller redshifts. According to Arp and Sulentic (see ref. 7) many Markaryan galaxies seem to be companions of smallredshift bright galaxies and thus they possibly have anomalous redshifts.
