The use of forbidden lines of approximately equal critical density as a
reddening indicator for the narrow-line regions of AGN is proposed.
Reddening estimates in 25 objects are made using R(3)/R(6) diagrams. It
is found that type 1 galaxies tend to have smaller reddening compared to
type 2 galaxies.
