The shortest possible period for the pulsar that has undergone accretion in a close binary system is the equilibrium spin period for supercritical accretion rates, of about mu exp 2/3. On the other hand, the period of a pulsar cannot exceed the critical one, P(E), which corresponds to the transition of a magnetized rotator to the propeller state. Those radiopulsars which have originated from binary systems and have passed through an X-ray source stage are situated between the equilibrium period line, P(dot)-P-squared, and the 'suppression line', P(dot)-P-cubed, in the P-P(dot) diagram.
