The existing baseline- and antenna-oriented methods of recovering the phase information in radio-interferometric measurements are discussed including the methods of Cornwell and Wilkinson, Readhead and Wilkinson, Fort and Yee, Cotton, and Schwab. All the methods use a brightness distribution model to derive an initial estimate of the true phase of the visibility function. The differences between baseline- and antenna-oriented methods are analyzed, and it is noted that, in order to adjust model phases, baseline weights should include both SNR and reliability of the model. The Schwab method is shown to be more generalized and convenient for recovering the phase, while it is recommended to utilize the linearized approach of Cornwell and Wilkinson whenever a good model and information with high SNR are available.
