The astrometry satellite Hipparcos offers the opportunity to reobserve the International Reference Stars (IRS) thus providing an adequate reference system as recommended by the International Astonomical Union in recent years. For the stars of the IRS ensemble the probabilities for encountering a star in the main grid of the telescope and in the star mapper grids during predefined intervals of time (18 s and 25 s) have been calculated.
