Observations of the X-ray emission from supernova remnants carried out
on the Einstein, Tenma, and EXOSAT satellites, and sounding rocket
experiments are reviewed. Interpretation of the high resolution images,
high resolution energy spectra, and spectrally resolved images is
discussed.
