We are privileged to have Dr. James Berger of Duke University's Institute for Statistical and Decision Sciences as our lead-off invited speaker. An eminent statistician (and past president of the International Society of Bayesian Analysis), Dr. Berger's work ranged from fundamentals of model and hypothesis testing, to links between different statistical approaches. His wide interests include astronomical applications. Dr. Berger will provide an overview, some historical context, and some modern perspective. After the 25 minute Invited Statistician talk, there will be three oral presentations, by astronomers, on applications ranging from radio period-searches to clustering studies in gamma-ray bursts. At the end, there wil be commentary on the oral talks (and any appropriate associated posters) by statistically literate discussants. Throughout there will be time for questions and discussion.
