Scientific paper
Various papers on recent developments in IR components and subsystems are presented. The topics considered include: IR laser sources; pulsed laser source in the 4.6-4.8 micron band; detectors of thermal IR radiation; comprehensive model for HgCdTe photoconductor sensitivity; pyroelectric detector arrays; Joule-Thomson cooling; British aerospace cryogenic coolers for IR detectors; measured performance of the Philips Usfa Stirling cycle cooler with various Dewars; miniature mechanical refrigerators for space use; and new cold shields for IR detectors. Also discussed are: recent developments in IR optical materials, IR antireflection coatings, and aspherics by vapor deposition; spectral characterization of cooled filters for remote sensing; manufacturing aspects of zinc sulfide; factors governing surface form accuracy in diamond machined components; recent advances in silicide detectors; airborne thermal mapping; and relative merits of the 3-5 micron and 8-12 micron spectral bands.
