Scientific paper

Real-time physical and biological forecasting was carried out at sea in June 2001 at the Iceland-Faeroes Front using a 3D coupled physical and biological model. Data collected during three repeated mesoscale surveys were used for model initialisation, data assimilation and forecast verification. The forecast successfully predicted the evolution of an anticyclonic meander and associated deep mixed layer leading to severe light limitation of phytoplankton production.
