(1) Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory Program for Observations, Recovery and Scientific Utilization of Satellite Fragments, by C. A. Lundquist, and outline of the program SAO undertook to recover and study the fragments of Satellite 1960 ɛ1, (Sputnik 4), which reentered the earth's atmosphere on September 5, 1962, with pieces landing in the U.S. (2) Sputnik IV Reentry: The Role of Moonwatch, by R.C. Vanderburgh. (3) Field Investigation of Sputnik IV Sightings and Fragment Recoveries, by W. A. Munn, further investigations in the Wisconsin area in which the initial fragments were discovered. (4) Radioactivities in the Manitowoc Fragments, by D. Tilles, E. L. Fireman, and J. DeFelice. The measurements of radioactivity, together with the evidence outlined in other sections of this report, suggest very strongly that the Manitowoc object was in fact a piece of Satellite 1960 ɛ1.
