Chain decomposition of ozone by hydroxyl and hydroperoxyl radicals has been observed. The rate constant at 300^circK for OH + O3-> HO2 + O2 is 8 × 10-14 cubic centimeters per second. The rate constant for HO2 + O3-> OH + 2O2 is 3 × 10-15 cubic centimeters per second. These results have implications concerning stratospheric ozone.
