Soluble rare earth element (REE) concentrations have been measured for five Pacific Northwest rivers (Columbia, Fraser, Klamath, Rogue, and Sacramento) using radiochemical neutron activation analysis. The relative abundances of the REE in river water resemble the REE abundance pattern in average sedimentary type rocks. The La material balance in the oceans is discussed.
