F-427 = ESO263-G13 is seen as a nearly flat-on spiral galaxy about 55 arc s in diameter on the SERC IIIa-J sky survey. It has a bright and distinct nucleus and has been selected for a survey of compact and bright-nucleus galaxies. Spectroscopic observations at the South African Astronomical Observatory, Sutherland of this extreme Seyfert 2 galaxy (RA 10h07m44s, dec -42°33arcmin30arcsec) reveal apparent profile variations in the [O III] 5,007+4,959 emission lines over as short an interval as 30 min - in complete contradiction to theoretical considerations. Attempts to explain the variations as being statistical, instrumental or spatial in origin are unsuccessful.
