The brightness distribution of the quasar 3C 345 at a wavelength of 2.8 cm is accurately modeled with two Gaussian elliptical components. Observations at four epochs between 1974.15 and 1975.68 show that the separation of the components increased from 1.23 to about 1.61 milliarcsec, at a rate of 0.2 milliarcsec per year. The apparent transverse velocity is about 8 times the speed of light, if one assumes a cosmological interpretation of the redshift.
