With reference to the work of Arp and Hazard (1980), a study has been made of the quasar alignments which are exact to the limit of resolution on a Schmidt plate, i.e., 2 arcsec. Using a computer, trials were made in which 300 quasars were randomly placed in two Cartesian coordinates in a square. Each triplet of points whose overall linear extent did not exceed one seventh of the square was studied for a possible alignment. Values were found for the deviation of the intermediate quasar from the line joining the other two members of the triplet. The computed results suggest that for 50 square degrees of sky, one can expect eleven alignments good to 2.4 arcsec and of an overall size less than one degree to appear on a Schmidt plate.
