In the course of an examination of the infra-red and ultra-violet regions of the spectrum of a large number of diamonds, we have come across one which, unlike the others, is transparent both at about 8μ, and also in the ultra-violet so far out as λ2300. This diamond was consequently well suited for determining the Raman effect throughout a much more extended region of the spectrum in which exciting mercury lines are available.
