Some of the basic principles of microwave and millimeter wave radiometry are discussed. Applications discussed include ground-based radiometry for plotting temperature profiles or water vapor distributions in the atmosphere, satellite radiometers mapping features of the earth's surface, and target-detecting radiometers. Some of the basic equations needed for these purposes are given.
