The characteristics of radio wave propagation in connection with space missions to Venus, Mars, and the moon were used to study the solar system. The Soviet interplanetary probe Mars-2, which in November 1971 became a satellite of Mars, made it possible to obtain new data concerning the Martian atmosphere. Information regarding the Venusian atmosphere was provided by Venera space probes. Attention is also given to investigations conducted by Soviet artificial satellites of the moon and explorations of the near-sun space.
