Using a radio continuum survey at 1415 MHz of bright galaxies, the distribution and the density of background sources in fields of size 80 x 80 arcmin around galaxies has been estimated. The results can be summarized as follows: (1) Radio sources with flux densities between 10 and 100 mJy observed in fields centered on galaxies come from a population of sources which is randomly distributed over the sky. (2) The density of background sources around galaxies is independent of the morphological stage and family of the galaxies (E, L, Sa...Sm, SA, SX, SB). (3) The density of background sources in fields around bright galaxies is not significantly different from the density in fields away from galaxies. (4) The excess of background sources in fields around galaxies claimed by Tovmasyan (1968) cannot be explained by the positional inaccuracy in his single dish observations.
