Radio observations of 3C273 at 408 MHz to search for the existence of a second jet are reported. No evidence for a counter jet was found, indicating that the missing jet would have less than 1/100 the brightness ratio of the two sides. The calculated magnetic field and energy densities, along with the calculated soundspeed of the observed jet, 0.29 c, imply that the unseen jet would have to be confined sideways. However, ram-pressure calculations indicate that if the beam is invisible due to Doppler beaming, then the mass is too small. It is concluded that 3C273 has a one-sided jet, and a model is presented for a beam of relativistic particles, instead of protons. Inconsistencies are noted in the model regarding the necessary driving force (1% of the power output of the central quasar) and the observed radio power, which is 100 times too small.
