We have carried out radio molecular line and near-infrared observations of the 100 micron sources HFE 2 and FJM 3 in order to study the temperature, optical depth, and excitation conditions in these sources. The radio line observations show that each source is associated with a small, cool, and dense dark cloud. The near-infrared observations reveal a number of reddened sources that are apparently stellar and either embedded within or behind the clouds. The near-infrared sources are not distinctly associated with the regions of 100 microns or peak molecular emission, and thus are not likely to be responsible for heating the submillimeter/molecular sources.
