Solutions of the axially symmetric radiative transfer problem in dust clouds, which are appropriate for modelling protostellar sources, are presented in order to show the dependence of the emergent spectra on the orientation of the system and to point out any shortcomings of more approximate results. In contrast to previous attempts to solve the axisymmetric problem, the method integrates the equation of radiative transfer exactly in the sense that it does not neglect any terms in the equation and treats multiple scattering from grains. The centrifugal radius is found to be the most important parameter that determines the shape of the emergent spectral energy distribution.
